Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)
UKM (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), established in 1970, is one of Malaysia’s major public research universities. It has improved its global standing, rising in the QS rankings to #126 in 2026, and is in the 401-500 band in THE 2025 rankings. International students form a significant part of UKM’s student body (~7,200 of ~17,900 in recent years), with postgraduate students a large share. For some programmes, international full‐programme costs are in the ballpark of RM 70,000-80,000, which is about $17,000-$19,000 USD, depending on faculty. Programmes like health sciences have specific international-tuition schedules; postgraduate research programmes are similarly priced. Living, accommodation, and other fees are extra. UKM offers many faculties and research institutes, with instruction in both Malay and English (depending on programme), and is strong in research, particularly in niche areas and subject disciplines that perform well regionally and globally.
